Inspired by HER to build confidence and body image in female students

A city-wide conference is coming to Vancouver this January and they’re looking to make a wide-scale impact on the next generation of young women.

Inspired by HER, presented by the BeaYOUtiful Organization and the Surrey Fire Fighters Association, is a conference open to girls between the ages of 10 to 14.

Their free-to-attend events are compiled of various workshops that aim to improve confidence, create positive body image, hone artistic expression, and better increase media literacy education.

Why? Because approximately 50% of girls between the ages of six to 12-years-old are dissatisfied with their body and appearance, meaning that there’s a serious need for change.

The BeaYOUtiful Organization and Inspired by HER aim to change the youth’s perspective on beauty and the negative influence of social media.

This edition of the conference, being held at the Yaletown Roundhouse Community Centre, managed to sell out in under a week and has a current waitlist of over 40 girls.

Although there’s no room at this event, organizers hope to raise awareness about the conference and bring attention to the need for more programs and education around young girls and self-esteem. There’s also a wait list people can join for future events.

The goal is to reach as many students and parents as possible, in a bid to instil self-worth in the next generation of girls.
