India Live! free street festival coming to Granville Street on Saturday

Get ready for roti!

The free India Live! street festival will be bringing Indian culture, music, dance and food to Granville Street this Saturday.

The festival, organized by the South Asian Family Association will be based around the intersection of Granville and Georgia from noon to 8 pm.

Headlining will be British Punjabi bhangra star Malkit Singh MBE, whose song Tutak Tutak Toothiyan is the fastest-selling and most successful bhangra song of all time.

His song Jind Mahi was also featured on the soundtrack for the hit 2002 movie, Bend It Like Beckham, starring Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley.

Also on show will be a Community Rangoli, where you can help create decorative floor patterns of coloured rice, sand or flower petals.

As well, festivalgoers can enjoy bhangra, dhol and yoga sessions on the dancefloor, a cricket workshop and kara races on the astroturf, and turban and sari tying lessons.

A henna booth, photo wall, gatka swordplay demonstration and beats from DJs Emenes and Super Singh will also keep partygoers busy all afternoon.
