A woman was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a car hit her and then took off in New Westminster.

On Tuesday at around 5 pm, police say they were called to 12th Street and 6th Avenue after a pedestrian was struck by a car. When they arrived, they found the injured woman, but the car was nowhere to be found.

Officers canvassed the area for witnesses and surveyed the scene for evidence after she was taken to hospital.

Sergeant Jeff Scott with the New Westminster Police Department says they’re interested in speaking with witnesses.

“At this point, we believe the suspect vehicle is a newer black sedan. This incident serves as a general reminder for pedestrians to exercise caution while crossing the street,” he says in a release.

If you have information about this crash, you’re asked to call the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
