While it might seem like we’ve just come out of an exceptionally long winter season, it still doesn’t take much of the dry, hot weather to spark a wildfire, as two hikers in Lions Bay found out on Monday.

On Facebook, Lions Bay Search and Rescue (LBSAR) said they were tasked with the effort of rescuing two hikers who had become stranded, due to a small wildfire that was burning on the Tunnel Bluffs Trail.

The pair were pulled from their precarious position by LBSAR, along with the help of Lions Bay Fire Rescue, the Ministry of Forests, and Talon Helicopters.

Even though there is no official fire ban in place for the region yet, LBSAR said they “strongly urge people to be responsible with fires.”

And with nothing but sunny skies, high temperatures, and warm, dry weather in the forecast, their advice couldn’t be more timely.
