9 must-try healthy brunch dishes in Vancouver

Brunch doesn’t have to be a carb-heavy-sugar-loaded feast in order to be satisfying.

For more health-conscious brunchers there are plenty of droolworthy options that aren’t drenched in syrup, smothered in bacon grease, or stuck between two pieces of thick buttered brioche.

Whether you’re up for a light bite or a big meal full of hearty greens and lean proteins, all of the offerings below pair extremely well with a caesar – which is truly the most important thing.

1. Red Pepper Omelette from Sejuiced

One of four omelettes offered at Sejuiced, the Red Pepper variety comes with a green salad and rye toast with its signature apple-ginger dressing. This spot also has vegan and vegetarian breakfast burritos, tofu scrambles, and granola with fruit.

2. Quinoa Waffles from Eternal Abundance

Eternal Abundance has a handful of menu items that will make a health-conscious bruncher happy. Aside from the Hippie’s Breakfast (a raw concoction of buckwheat granola, seeds, goji berries, fruit, and housemade nut mylk), and the Tofu Scramble, Eternal Abundance offers a healthier alternative for those who love waffles, so most of the population. Three freshly ground quinoa waffles with oats, hemp milk, and served with your choice of of sliced banana, pear, maple syrup, fruit compote, coconut shreds, and a vegan buttery spread make up this vegan brunch dish.

3. Tofu Ninja Bowl from Heirloom

Heirloom offers both vegan and vegetarian options for brunch, from the vegan side there is the Tofu Ninja Bowl. A combination of brown fried ride, bok choy, sui choy seasoned with spicy Thai chilli ginger sauce, and topped with grilled tofu, Sriracha, green onion, black sesame seeds, and lotus chips.

Heirloom’s brunch is available until 3:45 pm daily.

4. Poached Eggs on Avocado Toast from Nelson The Seagull

The dreamy housemade sourdough toast at Nelson The Seagull is even better when topped with fresh avocado and poached eggs. Simple and satisfying, a brunch at Nelson will never leave you feeling hungry. Add a side salad or sliced tomatoes if you’re really into veggies for breakfast.

5. Harissa “Burger” from Medina Cafe

Despite this dish being labelled a “burger”, it’s still a very healthy brunch option for those looking to avoid the infamously delicious Medina waffles. The Harissa “Burger” is two fried eggs, preserved lemon and harissa spiced beef on a grilled pita and topped with parmesan, tomato salsa, spiced hummus, baba ganoush, and seasonal greens.

6. Poached Eggs and Veggies from The Farmer’s Apprentice

With SPCA certified eggs from Rabbit River Farm and grass-fed and organic dairy from The Farmhouse, almost anything you order from The Farmer’s Apprentice brunch menu is guaranteed healthy. The Apprentice has a great selection of vegetables that switches up frequently depending on what has been delivered, combine that with poached eggs and a side salad and you’ve eaten all your veg for the day.

The Farmer’s Apprentice brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm.

7. Steel Cut Oats from Forage

This vegan dish from Forage’s breakfast menu includes warm steel cut oats, quinoa, flax, and cinnamon cashew froth. If you’re craving something sweet but you aren’t ready to tackle this spot’s epic brioche French toast, we recommend this.

8. Truffle-Scented Mushroom Omelette from Catch 122

Catch 122 Cafe & Bistro has some beautiful, healthy items on its brunch menu, but one of the standouts has to be the Truffle-Scented Mushroom Omelette. This dish consists of a Green as Grass Farm 3-egg omelette, seasonal wild and cultivated mushrooms, goat cheese, and Yukon nugget potato hash.

9. Tomato and Mozzarella Frittata from The Oakwood

Made with organic eggs from Rabbit River Farms, the Tomato and Mozzarella Frittata is made with gremolata, arugula, and lemon parmesan Brussels sprouts. Combine this with one of The Oakwood’s caesars made with housemade hot sauce and you’ve got a pretty healthy spread.

The Oakwood’s brunch is available on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 2:45 pm.
