A list naming Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants of 2015 gives Vancouver’s Hawskworth the honour of the number two slot, and a distinguished group of other local restaurants represent the city elsewhere in the ranks.
Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants says of the list that it “intends to serve as the definitive pillar of any sensible discussion about the quality of our restaurants and in particular how they stack up when compared to another across the street, or on the opposite coast—or even to themselves from one year to another.”
The rankings were determined by factoring in the opinions of numerous food critics, chefs, restaurateurs, and the dining public, though for the latter, the publication qualifies that they consulted only “those professionals among them who travel and dine out extensively and have a keenly informed sense of what a good restaurant should be.” (So: not Yelpers.)
In discussing Hawksworth’s merits, Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants points to chef-owner David Hawksworth (no stranger to such rankings for his eponymous eatery) and his “identifiable personal culinary style” and the restaurant’s something for everyone menu, modern styling, and deep wine list.
“Our incredible staff are the anchor to the continued success of Hawksworth Restaurant as well as the creativity and technical expertise of Chef Hawksworth and his culinary team,” says General Manager Chad Clark.
Clark points to the other Vancouver restaurants on the list and the pride of their shared honour; elsewhere among the ranks are: L’Abbatoir (17), Cioppino’s (18), Maenam (26), Vij’s (29), Chambar (32),La Quercia (54), Wildebeest (57), Bao Bei (70), Farmer’s Apprentice (72), Tojo (81), Ask For Luigi (98), and, with a nod to south of the Fraser, South Surrey’s My Shanti (53).
