Sticking to its guns of “Local Food and Loud Music” Hawkers Market expands in all directions for May.
Hawkers Market Vancouver’s original underground food market has moved to its next raw warehouse space at Studio East, allowing for more food trucks, Hawkers pop ups, tables and is adding live bands into the mix with the existing DJ sets.
The Market has planned its first live rock show with Local Vancouverite Ashar Kazi for May 10th. Ashar is also the Son of one of the long time Hawkers Market vendors at Yaya’s Kitchen and has been at many of the markets slinging up some seriously legit biryani. The Show starts at 10:30 pm and will go late. Ashar and his band are promising a show like you have never heard. Think blues rock merged with world music focusing on original songs laying down heavy guitar work.
The food lineup has a ton of new companies, many of them are the ones you wanna know about heading into Summer. In addition to Hawkers serving up 33 Acres Brewing’s Sunshine and Life. On the non-alcoholic side the market is featuring Nuez Milk with fresh nut milks, Vitae Juice with cold pressed juices, Dickies Ginger with damn tasty ginger beers and O5 Kombucha on draught. Expect lots of surprises mingled in.
The market has 4 double vendor mashups in addition to tons of additional vendors, so expect over the top and sort of an I’m gonna one up you culture at this market. Hawkers will be bringing their A game and weird and wild flavours.
Hawker mash ups are This Sandwich That Beer x 33 Acres, serving 33 Acres of Life with a Pork Belly BLT . Nuez Milk and Livias Sweets with “The Cookie Shot”. O5 Tea and Bumble and Oak with Kombucha and Chocolate we are hearing something about Kombucha popsicles that have been in development too at O5. Last but certainly not least an epic mash up for Electric Jelly Doughnuts, featuring a new cake doughnut skewer along with a marshmallow glaze by Chris Jerome, Edible Marked, Sweet Petite Confectioner, The Little Locavore and Blue Mule.
Both Hawkers and Eastside our built around supporting the local economy and new entrepreneurs, musicians, makers and artisans. May 10th is the day to support them and Eat Your City!
Take our word for it, it might be ok to skip a meal or two this week. Heck start fasting now if you are a hardcore foodie, this is the place to EAT in Vancouver this weekend!
