Hapa Ramen, the new project from Hapa Izakaya’s owner Justin Ault, has opened up in the West End, at 1479 Robson Street (right next to the Hapa Izakaya Robson Street locale).

Taking over a space previously utilized by Hapa Izakaya, 45-seater Hapa Ramen boasts a bright and airy space, 18 foot ceilings, and a street-facing patio, which will open up once the warmer weather returns.

The menu includes three set bowls of ramen, with more flavour combos to be introduced later in the year. Focusing on creating paitan–creamy chicken-based broths, the eatery’s signature dish is a kimchi ramen, composed of a spicy Korean fermented chili paste, and freshly made, preservative-free noodles.

A handful of toppings and sides are also available, in addition to a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Forgoing the dim lighting that is often found at the ever-popular Hapa Izakaya restaurants, which offer Japanese small plates-style dining, Hapa Ramen is noticeably brighter. With hanging lanterns and vibrant canvas paintings, the room is “fun and accessible,” remarks Ault.

Currently open for dinner, Hapa Ramen will introduce their lunch time service on January 18, 2016.
