Sep 6 2018, 6:43 am

Get ready to run to the hills and hit the Grouse Grind for a good cause this month.

On Saturday, September 15, the 28th annual Grouse Grind Mountain Run presented by VPG Realty Inc. will return to the infamous North Shore mountain trail to reach the Peak of Vancouver.

After completing their hike up the Grind, participants are encouraged to join in the fun at the post-race celebration in the Mountaintop Plaza. Festivities will include award presentations, a recovery zone, BBQ, music and interactive sponsor activations.

Adding to the event’s attraction? Cold hard cash in prizes.

This year’s event features a cash purse for both male and female top finishers.
1st place: $1500
2nd place: $750
3rd place: $250

In addition, a Grouse Mountain said “a course record incentive has generously been provided” by the event’s title sponsor, VPG Realty Inc.

An additional $2,500 will be awarded to the top male and female finishers should they break the current course records (Male: 25:01 Female 30:52).

The event also encourages participants to raise funds in support of the cardiology department at BC Children’s Hospital. In addition, Grouse Mountain will donate a portion of each registration from the Grouse Grind Mountain Run to BC Children’s Hospital.

More information, including how to register, can be found on the resort’s website.

Event Schedule

  • 9:45 am to 9:55 am: race warmup
  • 10 am: event begins
  • 10 am to 2 pm: finish line celebration in the Mountaintop Plaza (Includes a mountaintop awards ceremony at 11:30 am)

The Grouse Grind is a 2.9 km trail up the face of Grouse Mountain and hikers are reminded that the trail is only to be used for ascents.

Descents are prohibited for safety reasons, due to the high number of hikers ascending and the impact on the trail’s conditions. Descents can only be made using the Grouse Mountain aerial tram for $15.

About 150,000 people use the trail every year. Most hikers take an average of 90 minutes to complete the gruelling workout.

Although the Grouse Grind ends at Grouse Mountain Resort, the trail is maintained and operated by the Metro Vancouver Regional District.
