Is this a White Christmas in June? The 400 block of Granville Street, between West Hastings and West Pender, has been transformed into a flowing river within a winter setting for a Jeep commercial film shoot that is scheduled to begin this weekend.

Construction on the downtown Vancouver city block long film set began earlier this week. Real flowing water will flow on top of stones that make up the bed of the river, in addition to fake snow, frosted plastic trees and styrofoam boulders.

There hasn’t been anything quite like this for a film set in downtown Vancouver, although the production for Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in 2011 managed to convert Canada Place Way into a busy street in Bangalore, India. In 2006, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer even turned a part of West Cordova Street into Shanghai.
