9 good things that happened around the world this week

Every time we try to catch up on the news, negative stories constantly seem to dominate the headlines. There’s a reason why we say some things “restore our faith in humanity” – it’s because we rarely get exposed to the wealth of good things happening around us every day.

That’s why every week, we bring you a roundup of some of the biggest news stories about good things that happened around the world to help brighten your day.

Here are nine positive things that happened last week that you should know about (in no particular order):

1. Dog rescues frightened fawn stuck at sea


Storm, an English golden retriever, was on a walk with his owner Mark Freely last week when the pup suddenly ran into the ocean.

Freely tried to get Storm to come back, but it turns out the dog was running into the chilly waters to save a fawn struggling to stay afloat.

Storm grabbed the fawn by the scruff of its neck and brought it back to dry land. The fawn was taken to recover at an animal rescue centre.

2. Teen raises money to make sunscreen available for free at public pools

Lynly Brennan of St. Louis wanted to make sure swimmers were kept safe this summer.

The 16-year-old decided to raise funds for sunscreen dispensers to be installed at several public pools in her neighbourhood.

She managed to collect $1,600 to cover the cost of the dispensers.

“I was honestly, really surprised. Because I’m just a high school student. I wouldn’t really expect people to have this sort of feedback. But it really sparked,” Brennan told FOX2 Now.

3.  Dog can’t make it to wedding so bride’s dad surprised her with cardboard cutout

Hillary Bowles was crushed when her dog, Leo, couldn’t attend her destination wedding.

But Bowles’ dad decided to surprise his daughter with a life-size cutout of Leo for the wedding and it made for some hilarious pictures.

4. Woman calms down panicked boy with Autism on flight


Rochel and Bentzion Groner were on a flight back to the US from Isreal last week and the trip was expected to take eight hours.

On the plane, a boy with Autism started to become agitated and cry.

“His cries were heard throughout the plane and you could feel the tension among the other passengers,” wrote Bentzion on Facebook. “No one wanted to say anything but it was getting very uncomfortable.”

Rochel decided to go over and comfort the boy. She took him to the back of the plane and played with him for several hours.

The boy’s mother was of African descent and did not speak English but Rochel said that she could not stop thanking her.

“Smiles are universal,” she told the Good News Network. “She kept saying, ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you’.”

5. Dog reunited with owner after being stuck in rubble for 8 days


A small Pomeranian named Gunso was pulled alive from rubble after being trapped for eight days in his family home, which was destroyed by torrential rains.

The small pup was emaciated from not eating or drinking but he is now recovering with his family.

6. Strangers offer panicked brides dresses after shop shuts down

Hundreds of brides panicked this week after Angelo Alfred, one of the world’s largest wedding dress manufacturers, announced their Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Brides who had ordered dresses from the designer were left without anything to wear for their big day.

Luckily women willing to help out took to Twitter to offer their dresses to brides impacted by the closure.

Some women have been offering their dressed for free or only charging the cost of shipping and handling.

7. Dog helps baby deer stuck in fence

This dog named Charlie found a baby deer stuck fence and waited with it until it was finally free. Chalrie wanted to help and decided to comfort the deer until someone could get it out of the bars.

8. Officers help deliver baby boy on side of the road

Two officers in Michigan helped deliver a baby boy on the side of the road last week. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers reacted to the call of a medical emergency just after midnight and found a woman on the roadside giving birth.

The woman was on her way to the hospital when her water broke. Luckily the officers ho there just in time assist her and she now recovering at home with her healthy baby boy.

9. This cat greets the post woman in the best way

This cat waits for the post woman by the window every day and greets her in a hilarious way. Talk about a special friendship.
