Giant Water Slide Down Main Street needs your support

DH Vancouver Staff Feb 24, 2015 9:17 am

Want to go down a giant water slide on Main Street? This Father’s day (June 21, 2015) as 150,000 attendees come out to the 11th annual Car Free Day, the organizers of SLIDE THE MAIN want to add a two block long water slide for attendees to slip-n-slide down. This is Vancouver and anything fun takes some effort to get off the ground, so the organizers are asking for our help. Slide the Main will be Mount Pleasant’s first water slide bringing together the community for a day of awesomeness under the sun, including floaties, costumes and rubber duckies. The event would take place on Main Street between 14th and 16th Avenue.

The concept is inspired by urban artist Luke Jerram’s Urban Slide Project in Bristol. The organizers are in talks with the Bristol Slide organizer to put together a proposal for the city alongside a safety assessment, blueprint, safety protocols and operating procedures. All they need are 1,000 signatures to present to City Hall that we want the slide. If they get 10,000 signatures, they will call on Mayor Robertson to personally slide down Main Street.
