Gastown Chicken Fight returns for fifth year of wing competition

DH Vancouver Staff Apr 28, 2016 8:58 am

The ultimate whisky-inspired wing cook off, the Gastown Chicken Fight, is back for another year.

Held at the Lamplighter pub on Sunday, May 22 the annual competition will bring the restaurants of the neighbourhood together in friendly competition to see who can make the tastiest and the most finger-lickin’ good chicken wings.

The rules are pretty straight forward; the night before the contest, each team is given 20lbs of wings and a bottle of Lot 40 Canadian Whisky, which they must use in their recipe. They’re then sent away to work on their creations, which are live grilled on Lamplighter’s patio during the afternoon, then unveiled and served up for eating and judging at 5 p.m.

Along with a panel of expert judges, the public is invited to sample and vote for their favourites. A mix of judges scores and audience voting will determine which team has crafted the most delicious, whisky-flavoured wings.

Competing, or rather winging it, this year are: Water Street Café (reigning champions), Catch 122, Tacofino, The Charles Bar, and more.

Those interested in attending this event should stay tuned to @Lamplighter_Pub on Twitter for news about participating restaurants and judges.
