If you want to camp in Garibaldi Park, off the Sea To Sky Highway, this summer, you’re in luck – for the first-time ever, you can reserve a campsite.
According to a release, the camping spots at Garibaldi Lake, Taylor Meadows and Elfin Lake will now be available for reservations with arrival dates from June 29 to Sept. 30.
Meanwhile, Elfin Lake Shelter will be reservable on a three-month rolling window throughout the year.
“Garibaldi Provincial Park is a stunning example of the rugged beauty unique to BC Parks, and draws thousands of visitors each year,” said Jordan Sturdy, MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky in a release.
“By making available a reservations system, we can help Garibaldi Park visitors obtain a better backcountry wilderness experience.”
For Garibaldi Lake, Taylor Meadows and Elfin Lake, the new reservation system is only available in the summer.
In the off peak season, from October 1 until the last week of June, campers will still only be able to register – not reserve – a spot there.
The same goes year-round for other Garibaldi campgrounds, Helm, Cheakamus Lake (Singing Creek), Cheakamus, Singing Pass, Rampart Ponds and Wedgemount.
Registration and payment does not guarantee a spot, and the campsites will be given out on a first-come-first-served basis.
Also note, self-registration stations will no longer be available at the trailheads; if you want to stay overnight, you’ll have to pre-pay for a permit online.
Reservations open at 7 a.m. on June 22 through BC Parks’ Discover Camping Reservation Service.
