December's full moon will be the longest of the year

Dec 1 2018, 1:28 am

You’ll want to keep your eyes in the sky this month because December’s full moon will be the longest of 2018.

Not only that but it’ll be the longest full moon in eight years, according to the Weather Network.

This month’s full moon comes on the night of Saturday, December 22, following the longest night of the year.

The moon will be in full view for a total of 15 hours and 32 minutes – the last time Canadians had a view of the moon for this long was in December of 2010, where the moon was viewable for 15 hours and 54 minutes.

The colder winter weather also means that views of the night sky are much more clear, due to less moisture being held in the air.

Should the skies stay dry, Canadians will be treated to a stunning view of the moon and stars on a dark winter backdrop.
