Food guide: 5 Burnaby spots to satisfy every kind of mood

Sep 14 2018, 2:13 am

When it comes to deciding on where to have dinner, your mood actually influences your food choices more than you think.

Whether you’re full of energy after a workout sesh, if you’ve returned from travelling a certain part of the world, or if you’re in full-on celebration mode, your mind often casts to specific dishes.

That’s because there are places where you know you’ll be able to satisfy your weird and wonderful cravings. In Burnaby, you’ve got everything from poke, to heavy-loaded burgers, and the best of brunch.

And if you’ve visited spots close to Lougheed Highway lately, you may have noticed lane closures on Lougheed Highway from Willingdon to Springer Avenue, and later this fall from Springer to Sperling. These closures will be in place until fall 2018 as gas line upgrades are being carried out by FortisBC.

But that doesn’t stop you from following your instincts and fulfilling your cravings for the perfectly unique dishes at the following eateries.

There’s always more room for Chinese food in your life and Burnaby’s Grand Chinese Restuarant always delivers. The eatery serves up mostly hot and spicy Northern Chinese fusion food with some of the most reputable dim sum.

Many people visit for the house special boiled fish fillet in chili broth, the cumin lamb, szechuan style peppery chicken, beef rolls, chili cauliflower bites, and lamb dumplings. Just so you know, you’ll undoubtedly get cravings for the chili cauliflower bites.

Ever since poke became a food trend, we can’t get enough of it. Burnaby’s Pacific Poke serves up a taste of Hawaii with its selection of signature poke dishes and build-your-own bowl options. Fresh raw fish and ingredients topped to perfection is what it’s all about here.

So it’s completely understandable to have an instant craving for The Keefer bowl. Made with ahi tuna, ahi negitoro, avocado nori, fresh wasabi peas, organic seaweed salad, wasabi mayo, shoyu, yuzu and lime juice, herbs, and sprouts, it’s an undefeated champion.

Some days were just made for sushi. But not the standard, run-of-the-mill kind that you can pick up everywhere. We’re talking about the signature, over-the-top kind. And Sooda Korean BBQ Restaurant serves up exactly that.

This includes the Sooda Box — an 18-inch sushi roll (the longest in Metro Vancouver) made with premium beef and rice. And since it’s good for sharing, you’ll be thinking of this when date night rolls around. Korean specialty dish dakgalbi (stir-fried chicken and vegetables with a spicy gochujang based sauce) is also a huge favourite.

Oh, and the seafood pancake.
