What if by playing street hockey with your friends, you could be helping feed hungry people across Canada? Well, you can.

Five Hole for Food was created with the hopes of bringing food to those who need it most.

Every year, the organization travels from Canada’s east to the west coast, setting up outdoor hockey events at 13 stops along with way. In each town, donations from the various teams and spectators go to supporting local food banks, with over one million pounds of food being donated so far.

In Vancouver, Five Hole for Food supports the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society, which provides support to 28,000 people each week, through 15 depot and 100 community agencies.

Looking for ideas on what to donate? The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society’s most needed items include:

  • Protein like meat/fish/beans
  • Natural peanut butter
  • Whole wheat pasta/rice
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Low-sugar cereal

Or if you’re looking for a convenient way to support the event, London Drugs is offering a $25 bag of food, ideal for the food banks needs.

Register your team and get donating here.
