Vancouver Police are urging safety and caution when it comes to fireworks use after a fire late last night caused $500,000 in damages to a Vancouver home.

Emergency services responded to a fire at a home on Woodland Drive near East 10th Avenue at 10:30 p.m on Thursday, October 29. Thought to have been caused by reckless use of fireworks, two of the building’s residents were able to escape with the help of their neighbours, while a third resident was out at the time of the blaze.

While the house is not believed to have been targeted, investigators are looking to speak with three people seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Vancouver Police Department Arson Unit at (604) 717-2962 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
