A notable moment on Twitter:
Being contacted by CBC via Twitter on the day of Game 5 of the Canucks vs Kings playoff series last year for a story about Canucks fans who tweet during games. Theresa Lalonde (@TheresaLalonde) showed up at my house within 20 minutes and interviewed me in my living room. The story aired 5 minutes before the game started on the CBC evening news. My Twitter account and my phone literally exploded, as I’m sure there were millions of eyeballs glued to the TV at that moment. Because they displayed my Twitter handle on air, I also managed to get about 150 followers in less than 10 minutes. Here’s the YouTube video link (complete with my dirty socks): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0unXlarYwTM
Your best Tweet:
If “best” means most retweeted, then it was from last year’s #F5expo. It was a quote from Malcolm Gladwell’s keynote speech, “Social media opens the door to building trust and lasting relationships”. Such a good quote. Even though it was over a year ago, it still gets the occasional retweet from time to time. If “best” means my favourite tweet, then it was probably the Twitpic of the jaw-dropping 12-egg omelette I posted and ate during my Man vs. Food Seattle tour.
What did you want to be growing up:
I wanted to be an architect. I loved drawing buildings and floor plans. But growing up in a Chinese household, I had to really convince myself that I didn’t want to become a doctor, lawyer, or accountant. I’m glad I didn’t become any of those.
Your claim to fame:
Many eons ago, during my brief stint in retail, I was working at Sears in the men’s wear department and was approached by Theo Huxtable (yes, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, but forever Theo to me). He came to my counter and asked me to help him suit up for a party he was going to that night. So I picked out a dashing shirt and tie for him. I was so proud of myself when I saw a photo of him wearing my chosen ensemble many years later. I grew up watching The Cosby Show, so this memory sticks out.
Do you know of a hidden gem in our city?
Inevitably, this is going to be food related. I’m going to have to go with Hot Oven Pizza (@HotOvenPizza) in North Burnaby. Their deep dish
pizzas are nothing short of amazing. Seri Malaysian on Hastings and Tony’s Beef Noodle on Cambie deserve honourable mentions too.
If you were a superhero, who would you be and why?
007. Bond, James Bond (Sean Connery edition only). He doesn’t have super powers, but who needs that when he’s got style, sophistication,
nice cars, cool gadgets, beautiful women, and a license to kill. And he loves his martinis shaken (just like me).
If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?
I would be a pea in a pod, but only if the pea next to me was @Miss_MayC. Wait, does this mean I’m corn then? 😛
