Celebrate the season at the Festival of Trees in Steveston

Among the many holiday markets taking place throughout the Lower Mainland, an annual event to celebrate the Christmas season returns to the Richmond community of Steveston this month.

Hosted by the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society and Steveston Merchants Association, the Festival of Trees takes place inside the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site.

The event allows merchants and community groups from the Steveston area to show off their creative talents by decorating their own Christmas trees, which will be on display inside the historic cannery for a friendly competition.

Favourite designs are decided by votes, and the winners take a prize.

The multi-day festival kicks off on December 1 at the Cannery Farmers’ Market, and runs right through until New Years Eve.

From 10 am to 5 pm, visitors can browse the wares of local vendors and artisans from throughout the Lower Mainland, enjoy musical entertainment, and connect with community groups, all inside the historic Cannery in Steveston.

Visitors are advised that hours will vary slightly on both December 24 and January 1, when the market will be open from 10 am to 2 pm.

In addition, the market will be closed on both December 25 and 26.

Vendors include returning favourites Wheelhouse Seafoods, Campbell’s Gold Honey Farm, and Ladner Artisan Chocolates, as well as new additions Virtue Natural Bakery, Solecito Salsas, West Coast Brine, and more.
