Five people have been left injured after a family dispute at a banquet hall in Surrey descended into a knife fight on Friday night.

According to a release from Surrey RCMP, the fight occurred just before midnight in the parking lot of the hall in the 12000 block of Nordel Way.

Several people attending a large family function inside had got into a dispute, say police, which had spilled out into the parking lot.

Once outside, it seems a physical fight kicked off and someone pulled out a knife; when police arrived they found five people injured.

According to police, four of those people were suffering from “wounds as a result of an assault with a weapon.”

Meanwhile an elderly woman had a broken arm and other injuries, after being knocked over during the fight.

All were transported to hospital, but no one suffered life threatening injuries.

Police say everyone involved knew each other and were invited to the family event. No suspect has yet been identified but police are still speaking to witnesses.

Anyone who witnessed or has cellphone video of the fight, or saw anyone fleeing the parking lot, to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
