On Sunday May 28, Vancouver will join cities across the country for the 33rd annual World Partnership Walk to raise awareness and funds to alleviate global poverty. Started over three decades ago in Vancouver by a group of women, today the Walk draws tens of thousands of Canadians working to build a more peaceful, prosperous and equal world for all.
World Partnership Walk takes place in 10 cities across Canada: Calgary, Edmonton, Kitchener, Waterloo, London, Montreal, Ottawa, Regina, Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria. An initiative of Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC), the Walk is a national campaign that requires the talent and dedication of thousands of volunteers and sponsors.
Last year, over 40,000 Canadians—including 6,000 in Vancouver—participated in the Walk and raised $7 million.
Event organizers recognize the team spirit demonstrated in each of these cities is one of the biggest contributors to the event’s success which is why they have an entire workplace tool kit available to individuals who want to form teams. From a team captain guide to Facebook and Twitter cover photos and a Lunch and Learn PowerPoint, all the tools are easily downloadable and ready-for-use. Find them all at: https://www.worldpartnershipwalk.com/en/corporate-team-toolkit.
Donations to the Walk support AKFC’s development programs in Africa and Asia—initiatives that improve access to quality education and health, increase food security, create economic opportunities for women and men, and build strong, resilient communities and local institutions that will continue to support better futures for all.
For Canada’s 150th anniversary we invite Vancouverites to celebrate the longstanding tradition of Canadians’ generosity by stepping forward to join the 2017 World Partnership Walk.
