Laid back divorced baby boomer Yuichi is a salary-man who loves manga and song-writing more than work. He must watch out for his elderly mother Mitsue who suffers from increasing dementia. She is a constant source of comic energy or annoyance. Jumping back in time, we see the struggles Mitsue faced in life and how she overcame them. Veteran director Azuma Morisaki creates an emotionally complex work that is only more profound and life-affirming for its cartoonish portrayal.
The drama won the Mainichi Film Award and chosen the best 2013 Japanese film by film magazines Eiga Geijutsu and Kinema Junpo. Based on the manga by Yuichi Okano.
