Album Release Show
Matt Hoyles Music (Vancouver) // http://www.matthoyles.com/
Whether it's the gypsy blood, some weird, untold astrological phenomena, or the impact of spending 2 years in Detroit as a kid... maybe it was being the middle child... heck, maybe the moon was just right, and there was goofer dust in the air, or maybe he just got dropped on the head one too many times. Whatever the cause, this boy was born with the blues in his heart.
Taking a leaf from the book of the amazing Richie Havens, a Joe Cocker on beat box, guitar and harp, Hoyles is a compelling entertainer who leaves it all on stage! His musicianship as a guitarist is original and mesmerizing. His sound is big!
Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Son House, BB King, Eric Bibb, Gary Clark Jr., Robert Cray, Seasick Steve, Otis Redding, and countless others have influenced Matt Hoyles on his journey to now. Hoyles integrates the aforementioned along with influences of modern music to forge a powerhouse of passionate, blues fueled soul that is wholly his own
Gritty guitar, wailing harmonica, mad foot percussion and wickedly expressive vocals combine to create a unique rootsy sound that will get you stomping your feet and clapping your hands like there’s no tomorrow!
After an acclaimed show at CMW 2016 Matt was approached by producer Earl Powell and Engineer at Toronto’s legendary Kensington Sound Studios, Ben Pelchat, to record his debut album. The three instantly hit it off and made magic in the studio, truly capturing the energy and intensity of Matt’s signature sound. The album, ‘Time' was recorded over 2 incredible weeks of non stop creativity and will be released on April 21st 2018.

Jess Vaira (Vancouver) // http://www.jessvaira.com/
Throughout Jess Vaira's music career she's rarely been an artist who steps lightly into a new experience, as she'd always much rather jump in with both feet, ready for anything. Her powerful yet graceful style grew naturally through years of performing jazz and folk music, until exploring tastes led her towards soul and reggae grooves, hip hop hooks and loop pedals. As a solo artist her music is open, true, and resonates with beautiful clarity.
More than "just a voice" her song writing and playing style has also made her a favourite collaborator. Jess has contributed vocals to several Bobs&Lolo albums one of which received a Western Canadian Music Award in 2009 as well as 4 Juno nominations in 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016. Jess has also worked with the likes of Randy Ponzio (Shore 104 finalist), Alex Maher/DNA6 (lauded west coast hip hop group), David Morin (Soul R&B Loop Artist), and Adam Balie (Folk/Reggae).
In 2008 she released "Perspectives" under the name True Fold in collaboration with My Electronic Friends (East Van Digital). In 2002 she co-wrote several songs on the collaborative album by Bedroom Studios called "Submissions". Several of her songs have been featured in Film, Theatre and Television including the series Cedar Cove on the Hallmark Network. In 2015 Jess played alongside such acts as the Sam Roberts Band and Sweatshop Union at The Edge of The World Festival in Haida Gwaii.
If Eddie Vedder and Ella Fitzgerald were making Sunday brunch for Ani Difranco, Imogen Heap and Erykah Badu, they might be listening to Jess in the background. With an honest, sound that ranges from round and soulful to light and airy, Jess is a live performer and session artist in demand for her dynamic and engaging performances.
