Elizabeth Banks will be lending her star power to the upcoming Power Rangers movie that will be filmed in Vancouver.
According to Variety, Banks has signed on to take on the role of Rita Repulsa, an evil alien villain from the original Might Morphin Power Rangers television series in the 1990s.
This was also confirmed in a tweet made by the actress: “After 10,000 years, I’m free! It’s time to conquer Earth! Time to play #RitaRepulsa #PowerRangers.”

Banks is of course known for her recent roles in The Hunger Games trilogy, Pitch Perfect, The Lego Movie, and NBC sitcom 30 Rock.
Filming for the untitled Power Rangers reboot film in Vancouver was originally scheduled to begin last month. Instead, production will begin on February 29 and end on May 25, with a release on March 24, 2017.
The film, a Saban Entertainment and Lions Gate Entertainment collaboration, will be directed by Project Almanac‘s Dean Israelite. A script has been created by Ashley Miller and Zack Stenz, who have previously penned for other major productions such as Andromeda, The Twilight Zone, X-Men: First Class, Thor, Star Trek 3 and Fringe.
The premise of the series revolves around teenagers who are recruited to combat powerful alien super villains. When confronted with a crisis, the individuals would ‘morph’ into superheroes that wear brightly coloured skin-tight spandex suits and helmets that provide them with superhuman abilities and weapons, including skyscraper-sized robotic vehicles.
