This is the third article in a series highlighting local Vancouver food producers who have a mission to enhance our relationship to food.

You may have heard of the new local business taking office lunches by storm. Kits Kitchen is a local start up soup company serving fresh, organic, locally sourced, delicious and nutritious soups that warm you up from the inside out.

Officially having launched in October 2014, co-owners Joni Lind and Amy Kizaki are healthy and environmentally conscious entrepreneurs that make them much more than a soup company. Their manifesto is to create delicious and nutritious soups that nourish the body, support the local food production system and support organic food production.

Their line of soup recipes feature seasonal flavours such as Tomato & Red Pepper, Mushroom & Buckwheat, Butternut Squash & Ginger and Chicken & Veggie. Each soup is homemade in small batches. Keeping with their strong values on health promotion, all the ingredients are always whole foods, gluten free and dairy free, and contain no artificial flavours, additives or preservatives. They tell you right on the label why the food are good for you, such as being a digestive aid or anti-inflammatory.

Kits Kitchen is part of a new wave of food companies that support environmentally friendly food production systems in hopes of providing education on where our food comes from and the unintended consequences that system has on our health and environment.

There is intention behind all aspects of the Kits Kitchen operation. They source their food from local and organic suppliers because those products are more nutrient dense from being grown in biodynamic soil, and less environmental footprint. Lind and Kizaki have developed relationships with local farms to know how their ingredients are grown and how the chickens are fed and treated to ensure they have the highest quality product to consumers. Customers can reuse or return the their soup jars back to Kits Kitchen to reduce waste.

One of the most unique offerings Kits Kitchen has is their 48-hour Reset. Self described as not a cleanse, Kits Kitchen offers this detoxification soup package for those who want to reset their digestion with warming, nutrient dense foods. It includes their popular infused bone broths as nutrient dense ‘teas’ to infuse your body with essential vitamins and minerals. You can also find their soups on The Juicery Co’s Warming Detox program as another alternative to juice fasting.

What are you waiting for? You can order you Kits Kitchen online for delivery in Vancouver (including to offices!) or you can pick up soups at Organic Acres, Greens Market, Kondi Fitness, Eastwood Cycles and Body Energy Club.
