A dramatic police incident in East Vancouver landed a 32-year-old Surrey resident in custody recently.

The incident took place when VPD officers spotted a man driving a stolen vehicle that was being driven east on Great Northern Way near Glenn Drive.

VPD Const. Jason Doucette told Daily Hive “the driver attempted to flee and a collision occurred between the vehicle and a police SUV.”

It was all caught on camera thanks to Youtube user Chairface Chippendale whose dashcam captured dramatic footage of the incident.

The video, which was uploaded to the video sharing site yesterday, has already been watched more than 10,000 times.

Man arrested

Police said that Dion Marlon Bird was taken into custody, after the stolen vehicle was involved in a second collision on Great Northern Way at Clark Drive.

Bird is charged with with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle, and assaulting a police officer.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on June 14th.

No injuries were reported, as a result of the incident.
