An all-star lineup of female improvisers and special guests heat up Vancouver TheatreSports League‘s latest show, Firecracker!. Every Thursday night starting July 21, the cast will provide an original improv experience from a uniquely female perspective.
“It’s a special thing when women get together. We have similar points of views with shared experiences, it’s really magic,” said Denise Jones, Artistic Director of VTSL. “I love performing with men too, but it’s extra playful when gals play with each other.”
Firecracker! is part of VTSL’s mandate to increase diversity and provide new opportunities for women.
“Diversity is an important topic, and developing female talent is a big focus,” said Jones. “Vancouver is full of fun, talented women, and we want them to come play with us.
“Firecracker! is not just for women though. Men are welcome to come have a good time too.”
During the inaugural shows, Firecracker! will also celebrate high-profile Vancouver women. Blogger and Social Media Maven, Miss604, is the special guest on July 21, sharing stories of her life, work and achievements to inspire the performance. Future guests include burlesque dancer Burgundy Brixx, actress Beverley Elliot, and singer Sadie Campbell.
“You never know what the next hit will be. We challenge our players to take risks and try new things,” said Jones. “We have diverse audiences, so Firecracker! may end up someone’s new favourite show.”
