Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona doesn’t think Canada is deserving of hosting the 2026 World Cup.

Maradona says he does not like the decision for Mexico, United States and Canada to host the worldwide soccer event, slamming the countries’ lack of success and passion for the sport.

Considered to be one of the greatest football players in history, he won the 1986 World Cup with Argentina.

He took issue with Canada hosting the World Cup, saying the game becomes too marketable in North America and recalled the last time the United States hosted the World Cup in 1994, splitting the game into too many commercial breaks.

“There’s no passion, Canadians are good at skiing and everything else,” Maradona said.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be a joint venue, hosted by Mexico, USA, and Canada, though which cities will be selected has not yet been determined.
