Crews battling apartment fire at North Vancouver seniors centre

Fire crews and police are currently on scene in Deep Cove, where a fire broke out at an apartment earlier this afternoon.

The North Vancouver Fire Department was called to the Mount Seymour Lions Manor, a complex which offers approximately 200 housing opportunities for seniors.

At this time, crews remain on site and are still combatting the flames. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

It is also unknown at this time whether there are any serious injuries that took place.

Gallant Avenue, the main stretch leading down to Deep Cove, is currently filled with smoke.

Locals who were occupying the beach and park earlier today are slowly filtering out of the area.

A roadblock has also been set up by police, where vehicles are being turned away at the intersection of Deep Cove Road and Strathcona Road.

Only local traffic is being allowed through at this time.

Translink has also stopped all service into Deep Cove until further notice. Commuters are asked to take the 211 Seymour bus at Dollarton Highway.
