A 52-year-old cyclist has died after taking a fall from his bicycle while riding on the sidewalk of the Lions Gate Bridge.

The incident occurred at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday when the victim was passed by another cyclist, who has been described to be in his 40s, wearing a helmet, sunglasses, cycling tights with earphones in his ears. The man fell onto the sidewalk as he was being passed and succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to hospital.

The wife of the victim was 70 metres behind her husband and was also passed by the cyclist. All three cyclists were traveling northbound on the bridge’s east sidewalk.

Witnesses attempted to alert the passing cyclist but were unsuccessful. West Vancouver Police is investigating the incident and are looking for any other witnesses as well as the passing cyclist who did not stop.
