A cyclist in Delta has passed away after a traffic collision that took place yesterday afternoon.

Police were called to the scene of 72nd Street and 36th Avenue, near Boundary Bay Airport.

A collision occurred between the cyclist, who was travelling on 36th Avenue and the vehicle who was travelling southbound on 72nd Street.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is fully cooperating with the police.

According to Cris Leykauf, public affairs coordinator for the Delta Police, “emergency Health Services attended, but unfortunately, the cyclist did not survive the collision.”

Officers have contacted the cyclist’s immediate family, however, police will not be providing any information before allowing extended family and loved ones to be notified.

A traffic collision reconstructionist also attended the scene; southbound 72nd Street was closed to public traffic until approximately 6 pm.
