Vancouver Police are investigating an early morning collision that’s caused a section of West Broadway to be closed down.

Police were called to West Broadway near Yew Street at around 6:15 am after receiving reports of a collision that involved a motorcycle and an SUV.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 54-year-old Burnaby man, passed away at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, a 64-year-old Vancouver man has remained on scene and is said to be cooperating with the investigation.

West Broadway has been closed between Arbutus and Yew Street as the VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit takes over.

Translink has created several detours based on the accident, specifically for the following busses:

  • 9 Alma/Granville/Boundary Loop: Currently no service on Broadway between Granville and Alma.
  • 14 UBC/Hastings: A temporary stop has been created northbound on Macdonald at Broadway.

There have been no indicators as to whether speed was a factor in the collision.

This is Vancouver’s seventh traffic-related fatality of 2018.
