You’re thirsty and looking for the best place for a beer in the city. Where do you go?
The answer is simple; head to the Alibi Room on the edge of Gastown.
Since it opened in 2006 it’s been the most beer focussed bar this side of the Rockies. Be warned: don’t expect to be served a Heineken or Budweiser; they aren’t on the beer list. Owner Nigel Springthorpe, a craft beer fanatic, made sure that Alibi Room exclusively served the best beer in town having one-off casks available throughout the week along with his many taps. Nigel has built a relationship with all of the breweries around BC so that he is able to get first pick of the newest beers available. Whether you’re looking for an easy drinking kolsch or a hop-bomb of an IPA, the Alibi Room has it available. Check out their ever-rotating beer list and prepared to be overwhelmed in the best way possible, you’ll want to try a bit of everything! If you’re looking for a bite to eat with your beer (or beers) of choice, you won’t be disappointed here. I recommend you go with the charcuterie plate and see how it pairs with a flight of different beers.
The Alibi Room is always buzzing. They regularly hold special events that sell out within minutes; if you were one of the lucky few to get tickets to Alibi’s Hopapalooza this year then you experienced the definition of a beer extravaganza, I’m already looking forward to next year’s event. On a regular night, if you get the chance, saddle up to one of the long tables and have a beer with the other beer lovers. If you don’t know what to order, ask your servers, they’ll be able to point you in the right direction of beer that will go best with your palate. To start, go with a flight of BC beers: Driftwood, Central City, Crannog, and Phillips breweries are reliable choices.
The Alibi Room is a shining star in the local beer scene, the king of the craft beer castle, the beer geek’s mecca in Vancouver.
