Condo 101: How to create that summer patio feel (with or without a patio)

Mar 20 2018, 1:27 am

Summer is just around the corner, which means it is time to embrace and fully take advantage of patio weather! However, not everyone has the luxury of being able to enjoy it from their own personal patio oasis, but that shouldn’t stop you. Here are some tips and tricks for creating a dreamy summer space, indoors or out.

1. Don’t be afraid of bold summer colours!

From large scale wallpaper to small-scale decor pieces, bringing the outdoors in could not be easier. If you’re feeling bold, a floral wallpaper or wall decals may be perfect for your space, especially as a statement wall. Large art or prints are another easy way to create a bold focal point, and smaller additions such as cushions, vases, or coasters with colourful patterns could make all the difference.

2. Invest in some string lights

Not only are string lights affordable and simple to install, they might just be the perfect addition you never knew you needed. When placed outside on a patio, it is easy to transform the space into a happy-hour retreat. Yet when used inside, they can do just that in your own living room. These charming lights from Urban Outfitters are affordable, easy to install, and can be used for both indoor and outdoor spaces.

3. Plants and flowers create your own personal oasis

It’s no secret that by inviting a few plant-friends into your space, you will create a much more inviting and oasis-like feel. Larger scale plants such as these Majesty Palms from IKEA are perfect for the corner or your living room or patio, whereas smaller tabletop plants and flowers are a way to again bring in some colour and life. Summer is a time to embrace nature and the beauty of the outdoors, so what better way to do so than bring the outdoors in. Check out your local garden centre to find your new best palm friend.

4. Embrace the summer fruits

If you’re not a fan of the care maintenance required by living plants and floors, and quite honestly afraid of the commitment it takes to keep them alive, the life and greenery of summer can be easily added to the space in many other ways. Summer fruits are a big part of the season overall, so have fun with it. Check out these watermelon cushions from Etsy! Playful fabrics with fruity and bold patterns are also great for upholstery, and this hanging fruit basket is a fun addition suitable for all kinds of spaces. Colour is a big part of how summer feels and looks, so why not embrace it!
