Call out for Concord's New Year's Eve Vancouver Celebration volunteers

Dec 21 2016, 7:26 am

Canada’s largest New Year’s Eve party is looking for volunteers from the community to help pull off the big night to ring in 2017.

“Volunteerism is absolutely key to major, free community events like Concord’s New Year’s Eve Vancouver, it’s at the heart of what drives our event,” said Dani Pretto, the Chair of the Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society, the not-for-profit organization behind the annual event.

“This free event would not be possible without all of our volunteers. It’s a fun, memorable experience, and an exciting opportunity to show off civic pride. Concord’s New Year’s Eve Vancouver is all about community coming together and celebrating its achievements, and the upcoming event is of particular national significance as it is part of the official kickoff to the Canada 150 celebrations for Canada’s 150th birthday next year.”

This is an all-ages, family-friendly event that celebrates the community and its successes, both individual and collective.

The second annual Concord’s New Year’s Eve Vancouver celebration event takes place on Canada Place Way in downtown Vancouver from 6:30 pm to just after midnight and includes street entertainers, live music from two outdoor stages, 20+ food trucks, a countdown clock tower, and sponsor exhibitions. There are two fireworks shows: a 5-minute-long Family Fireworks show at 9 pm and a spectacular and intense 10-minute-long Midnight Countdown Fireworks Finale at midnight.

The event also has three premium experience components: the RE/MAX Family Zone for the viewing of the fireworks along the Canada Place pier’s West Promenade; the Outdoor Viewing Zone along the North Seawall of the Vancouver Convention Centre’s West Building; and the TRUE NORTH Indoor Party inside the West Ballroom of the Vancouver Convention Centre’s West Building. TRUE NORTH is Vancouver’s biggest indoor NYE party and the only indoor party with a view of the fireworks.

Volunteer duties on Saturday, December 31 include greeting and directing guests as they arrive at the festival site, assisting the production crew, escorting performers, and operating the Kids Zone and craft tents.
