South Korean rappers Dynamic Duo delivered a high energy show to their Vancouver fans Easter Sunday night at the Vogue Theatre; an especially commendable feat given their restless red-eye flight from Toronto the night before. Right away it’s evident how much the group is influenced by American hip-hop; the stage production for their first Vancouver show featured a simple DJ set up minus all the flashy special effects and video screens usually associated with Korean concerts.
Warming up the predominately Korean crowd was the duo’s very own DJ Friz playing an eclectic set that featured both English and instrumental tracks ranging from Lido to George Michael and Fatman Scoop. Interestingly, the crowd was completely into it and showed their enthusiasm by clapping, cheering, and dancing along.
Further solidifying their independent lane in the Korean music scene, Gaeko and Choiza chose to dress all in black placing zero distractions on their performance and further emphasis on their unmistakable stage presence and charisma. The performance itself, also heavily influenced by 90s era hip hop, had the pair performing a variety of tracks from their 12 year deep catalogue.
Regularly interacting with their audience throughout the show, a highlight was definitely when the duo performed “Shoot – Goal In” which had the entire crowd shooting three pointers and singing in unison.
