“This is the best concert ever!” Yelled an enthusiastic fan from the middle of the sold out Vogue Theatre. “Thank you so much,” mumbled Elena Tonra, lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of the London, UK based indie-folk band Daughter. With her hair gently obscuring her face, she shared a soft chuckle with her band mates Igor Haefeli on guitar and bass, and Remi Aguilella on percussion.
Having just released their sophomore LP Not To Disappear earlier this year, Daughter has been touring around the world; their latest stop was in Vancouver where fans have been awaiting their return since 2013.
Swiftly entering the stage, the band slid right into the song “How” where Haefeli’s reverb laced guitars and Tonra’s soaring vocals rolled over the crowd in waves. Primarily focusing on material from their latest album, the band also managed to incorporate many songs from their six year deep catalogue. They regularly took moments throughout the set to banter with the fans and share their gratitude.
Fully engaged with them on every single song, the audience often applauded and shouted compliments to the band. “You’re beautiful!” Someone exclaimed partway through the show. Highlights from the night included the performances of “Alone/With You,” “Doing The Right Thing,” and “Youth” where the crowd sang along with Tonra word for word.
