Two independent Vancouver theatres will be bought out by Cineplex Entertainment group, thus saving them from the wrecking ball. Furthermore, the theatres will continue to screen art, foreign and independent films. A win win situation.

The two theatres will remain under Festival Cinemas until March 1, 2013. After which they’ll be handed over to Cineplex Entertainment. This is welcome news for a city that has battled to keep it’s independent theatres alive. Denman Cinemas closed its doors late last year and  two weeks The Ridge Theatre (which was also under the Festival Cinemas umbrella) shut its doors to make way for a new residential and retail complex.

Expect movie prices to remain the same, but now you’ll be able to save money through the Cineplex SCENE card program and the always popular Cineplex Tuesdays.
