Word came out today that Vancouver Canucks defenseman Chris Tanev will be a scratch against the visiting San Jose Sharks tonight. Since this is Vancouver, people ran through the usual possibilities for being scratched (Trade? Injury? Aliens?) and Twitter came up with a plausible explanation:
Botchford, quick on the draw, also had the hit in question:
That is Adam Lowry hitting Tanev behind the net. Adam Lowry, 6″5, looks like he jumps into the hit in an attempt to recreate a really bad spear by the Big Show. Tanev obviously didn’t see the hit coming and if he is out with a concussion, that is a serious blow to the Vancouver Canucks. Not only has Tanev been one of the most reliable Canucks defensemen in his own zone all year, but this also means Luca Sbisa could get more ice time.
Frank(ie) Corrado is also currently out (injury? aliens?), but no plans have been made yet to call up another defenseman, so get ready for a game with mixed lines of Weber, Stanton, Clendening, Edler, Sbisa, and Hamhuis.
And to be fair to Luca, he did get that nice overtime goal last game…
