You are what you eat. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Vancouver is a hub of multiculturalism and our food circuit is proof of that. Not in many cities, will you find a hyper-ethnic food circuit ranging from hole in the wall quick eats to high-end dining establishments. Representing the Thai culture with a contemporary take is Charm Modern Thai, which you can find at the end of one of Yaletown’s illustrious cobble-stoned streets.
Charm is the youngest sister restaurant among Thai House Restaurant Group’s successful empire. With fellow establishments including Thai House Restaurant, Chilli House Thai Bistro, Urban Thai Bistro and Samba Brazilian Steakhouse – Charm has been able to grow on the experience of its elder siblings but with a new twist on flavors and ambiance. Inside you’ll find an open kitchen which shows you a bit of the bustling of kitchen and gets the delicious aromas flowing. Bold red curtains, oversized mirrors with gold trim and panels of bamboo add the contemporary flair that helps the drink from the fully stocked bar go down smoothly.
A fine example of their contemporary twist is their duck sticks, crispy golden cylinders of duck confit – voted by Vancouver Magazine as one of the best things to Eat and Drink in Vancouver. This item has to be one of my favorites.
Other dishes I tried and liked include my must-have Pad Thai, Tom Kha Lobster Bisque, Crispy Prawn Wontons and their delish green curry. If you can’t make it in to try their curries (green, red or yellow), they are available across in the nation in most Safeway and IGA stores. Don’t forget dessert. I had the Vanilla Bean Tapioca and it was warm, and comforting.
