The 24th annual Celebration of Light fireworks festival kicks off Saturday, July 26, along with the first of three nights of SHOREFEST concerts at English Bay and Sunset Beach Park.
The first night of festivities at English Bay will be headlined by local favorites 54-40, with Saskatoon’s The Sheepdogs taking centre stage on July 30, and The Odds wrapping things up on August 2.
Current Swell, Spirit of the West and Jim Byrnes and the Sojourners will each see time in the spotlight as well, as they headline on the Sunset Beach Stage.
“Our continued commitment to emerging and familiar Canadian artists is evidenced with our SHOREFEST line up.” said Sherri Piece, General Manager of LG 104.3. “We can’t wait to showcase these talented artists on the world stage!”
New this year to the festival is an all-ages licensed alcohol section in the YVR bleacher seat viewing area, meaning people can now enjoy a cold one while enjoying the spectacular fireworks displays.
There’s also something new for the younger crowd. Bouncy castles, children’s activities and daytime cultural entertainment both on the stage and on the grass will take place at Sunset Beach starting at 2:00 pm on Saturdays.
“There is so much to see and do during the Honda Celebration of Light,” said John Reynolds, President of the non-profit Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society. “We are encouraging everyone to take in as much as possible along English Bay and Sunset Beach Park as early in the day as possible and to enjoy all that the festival has to offer.”
