International Cat Day is upon us, and you know what that means: it’s time to celebrate all things kitty.
Vancouver is chocked full of fluffy feline friends that desperately need homes. On Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association‘s website alone, there are 53 adult cats and 49 kittens who are waiting to be adopted.
VOKRA is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing cats throughout Metro Vancouver. Rather than having a traditional shelter, they’re a collection of 350 individual foster homes throughout Vancouver and surrounding areas.
Since its inception in 2000, VOKRA adopts out nearly 2,000 cats and kittens every year.
In need of a kitty companion? Here are 12 amazing cats and kittens who need homes.
Angus is 11 months old and has been at VOKRA with his brother, Fetty, since they were kittens. The pair are finally healthy enough to be adopted out, but they come as a pair. They’re described as “the sweetest boys.”
Weslee loves crinkle balls, but who doesn’t? He’s described as playful and caring. He takes time to adjust to change, but when he does, you’ll get personal greetings at the front door. Wesless does suffer from epilepsy – it looks like he’s having a dream where he’s running when he has a seizure – for which he requires twice daily medication.
Whispurr is a surrogate mom. She had adopted kittens shortly after having her own, and now that all the babies are being adopted out, it’s her turn for a safe, warm forever home. Fair warning: she’s not a fan of other cats or dogs.
Look at that nose dot. If your heart doesn’t melt, you’re not human. Tiggy is “loyal and cuddly” and likes being picked up. She’s vocal and has a loud “meow” that she uses as a greeting, and she loves back and ear scratches.
Eight-year-old Cornelius is calm and quiet and prefers a home that’s the same. He loves to look out the window, receive pets, and groom himself, but he’s FIV positive, so he should be the only cat in the house.
Raine is a 9-week-old adorable orange tabby cat who was found with her siblings in a farmer’s field at just one week old. Their mother had died, so they were bottle fed, and now they’re all strong and healthy. Raine must be adopted with her brother, Russ.
Samwise is described as VOKRA’s “big charmer.” He’s fearless, love snuggles, and purrs loudly and often. He has a lovely temperament and isn’t easily spooked or startled. He needs to be adopted with Hufflepuff.
Little 10-week-old Samuel is very social and loves people. Just like his sibling Lily May, he will run to the door to greet you when you come home from work, and immediately starts purring when you pick him up. Both siblings need to be adopted together.
This little baby is nervous, so she’s best suited to an adult home, or with older children. She loves other cats, and should be adopted into a household that has a kitty. Clara is still learning to trust humans, so patience is required.
Giving kisses and sunbathing are this girl’s two favourite things to do, and she loves having other cats around, so she’s best adopted into a household with other kitties. Her favourite toys include boxes, tubes, tents, balls, and a cat post.
