The Ultimate Vancouver Brunch Guide: Catch 122

Jun 2 2016, 4:48 am

Vancouver is full of delicious brunch options. Grab a table at Gastown’s Catch 122 Café Bistro, a popular contemporary Canadian eatery.

Scrambled eggs, house-mage chorizo sausage, house-smoked bacon, wild mushrooms, Gruyere cheese, arugula, English muffin and Yukon nugget potato hash: That’s your $12 brunch at Catch 122 Café Bistro, which is located on West Hastings, near the corner of Abbott Street.

The scrambled eggs chorizo double-decker is just one of a handful of delicious brunch options available at Catch 122. Indeed, Catch 122’s brunch menu is filled will a range of dishes that will have diners licking their lips in anticipation, including house-cured bacon and eggs, duck prosciutto eggs Benedict, truffle-scented mushroom omelets, brioche French toast and more.

An all-time favourite meal for Catch 122’s brunch crowd is the The Gastown Classic, which features two eggs any style, choice of house-made maple pork sausage, house-cured smoked bacon, or ham, house-made maple beans, toast and Yukon nugget potato hash.

Those who opt for this classic plate will not be disappointed. The local free run eggs that are freshly picked weekly from Green as Grass Farm in Chilliwack, when poached are perfect, with the yolk a deep yellow; the nugget hash (which is not so much hash as it is a batch of mouthwateringly round and golden roasted potatoes) has the ideal amount of crunch and salt; the house-made maple beans are rich and flavourful, and last but not least the homemade sausages are delightfully porky with subtle hints of herbs, spices and maple flavouring.

With such satisfying food (and well-made coffee, it must be said) it’s no wonder that Catch 122’s weekend brunch service attracts quite a bit of attention.

Although Catch 122 doesn’t take reservations for brunch at the weekend (seating works on a first come first serve basis), they do during the week, when the bistro offers brunch from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those in need or want of a weekend brunch feast and plan to visit Catch 122 from 10:30 a.m. onwards on either Saturday or Sunday, can expect a small–but totally worthwhile–wait for a table.

While the excellent brunch plates and their extremely reasonable standard $12 pricing is enough to bring patrons back time and time again, it is also worth noting the café’s incredibly warm ambiance.

With wonderfully rustic décor (think exposed brick, high ceilings, wooden accents, polished concrete flooring), comfortable seating options catering to various parties and friendly and attentive service, the team at Catch 122 have created a sophisticated yet laid-back setting, where quality food can be not only enjoyed but savoured.

Catch 122’s brunch menu certainly delivers and offers patrons just the right amount of indulgence, so brunch enthusiasts be sure to drop by if you haven’t already.
