Canucks trade Dane Fox to Carolina for future considerations

If you thought you wouldn’t get any fun Canucks trades to talk about until June, you thought WRONG!

The Vancouver Canucks have traded minor league winger Dane Fox to the Carolina Hurricanes for future considerations.

Ok, maybe you thought right, this trade isn’t fun at all.

Fox was in the midst of a 64-goal season as a 20-year-old in junior when Mike Gillis signed him to a contract back in December of 2013. Since turning pro, Fox has been a disappointment.

Fox spent the entire 2013-14 season with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL, scoring 45 points (30-15-45) in 70 games. This year, he has appeared in just one AHL game, plugging away primarily in Kalamazoo.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Fox, now 22, hasn’t parlayed a great final junior season into NHL success. Hockey is littered with players that excel as 20-year-olds in junior, playing against younger players, that don’t succeed in the pro game.

He’ll get another chance to prove himself in the Hurricanes organization, beginning with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers.

In other minor news concerning the Canucks and Hurricanes, Charlotte has acquired forward Blair Jones on loan from the Utica Comets in exchange for loaning them T.J. Hensick.
