With Brandon Sutter out of the lineup, the Vancouver Canucks have called up Hunter Shinkaruk from the Utica Comets.
A first round draft pick by Vancouver in 2013, Shinkaruk has had an excellent start to the season in the AHL. Shinkaruk leads the AHL in goals, with 10, and leads the Comets in points, with 13, so his call-up is well deserved.
The former Medicine Hat Tiger is a dynamic offensive player, who looks to have found his form after a learning experience in his first year of pro hockey last season.
Shinkaruk had 86 points in 64 games with Medicine Hat in his draft year in 2012-13, but was limited to just 18 games the next season due to injury. Last year, his first as a pro, he had just 31 points in 74 games.
He will join the Canucks on their current eastern road trip.
