Canucks Acquire Cory Conacher on Trade Deadline Day

DH Vancouver Staff Mar 02, 2015 11:14 am

Cory Conacher has been traded from the New York Islanders to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Dustin Jeffrey.

Conacher is a 25-year-old centre who has only appeared in 15 games for the Islanders this season, notching 3 points. He has spent most of the season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.

Conacher was undrafted coming out of college, but burst onto the scene as a 22-year-old rookie with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Conacher had 9 goals and 15 assists in his first 35 games in the NHL, before being traded to Ottawa for Ben Bishop in 2013.

Needless to say, his stock has dropped since then.

Dustin Jeffrey is a good AHL player, who has played the entire season in Utica. Jeffrey is almost two years older than Conacher and has 41 points in 49 AHL games this season.

The Conacher move is a depth move for the organization, as he will report to the Utica Comets of the AHL.
