A candlelight vigil has been planned for Friday evening for the boy who lost his life in last week’s storm.

Shakir Salaam, 15, died after a tree fell on him at Clayton Park on October 14. Salaam had life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.

Now people are honouring his memory at Clayton Heights Secondary School in Surrey tonight at 7 pm.

A poster that has been circulating says there will be light refreshments served at the event, and that flammable candles aren’t permitted – battery operated tea lights will be provided for the first 600 guests, and everyone is asked to wear black hats.

Media are asked to keep their distance out of respect for the family.

There’s also a GoFundMe page set up in his honour that has raised more than $23,000 at the time of publication.
