Ever take some time off from reading Daily Hive at work to search for that perfect vacation? You’re not alone.

Recent data from travel search engine Kayak reveals there is a spike in searches around 3 pm on weekdays.

So it seems people are already dreaming of that perfect getaway nearly two hours before clocking out.

A complimentary survey by Ledger 360 confirmed that Canadians are planning their next trip when they hit their midday slump.

David Solomito, director of brand marketing at Kayak, said this is an emerging trend.

“For many, the boundaries between work time and personal time are indistinguishable, so planning a vacation during work and working from your vacation are becoming commonplace,” he said.

The survey also found that millennials are shiftier about their time off, with younger respondents being more willing than those who were older to lie about planned vacations, or to get a fews “sick” days off.

That doesn’t mean older Canadians are off the hook, however, as it appears our entire country is guilty of misusing work hours, at least compared to France and Australia, where most travel searches take place around 9 pm.

  • The survey found that 25% of Canadian respondents would lie to their employer in order to go on a dream vacation.
  • Half of Canadian respondents said they daydream about their next trip while at work.
  • 37% have searched and planned personal travel during work hours.
  • Torontonians are Canada’s worst offenders, according to Kayak data, followed by those in Montreal, and then (you guessed it) Vancouver.

Which is somewhat ironic, as both Vancouver and Toronto are high on Kayak’s list of top destinations searched for by at-work Canadians:

  1. London, England
  2. Vancouver
  3. Toronto
  4. Las Vegas
  5. New York
  6. Los Angeles
  7. Paris
  8. Orlando
  9. Fort Lauderdale
  10. Calgary

Now, get back to work! (or don’t, I’m not your boss.)
