Star Wars: The Force Awakens to stream on Netflix Canada

Canadian Star Wars fans, rejoice! Variety has reported that the newest addition of the Star Wars saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will stream on the Canadian version of the Netflix streaming service in 2016.

American Netflix subscribers, however, won’t be so lucky.

“In the U.S., premium cable channel Starz has an exclusive output deal with Disney that runs through the end of 2015; Netflix’s pact with the Mouse House commences with 2016 titles,” Variety reported. “With “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” slated for Dec. 18 theatrical debut, that means Starz will be the pay-TV home for the movie in the U.S.”

In Canada, however, Netflix acquired streaming rights to Disney titles beginning with 2015 releases, after their pay TV deal with Corus and Bell Entertainment expired.

Vancity Buzz reached out to Netflix Canada for comment, and will report further as information becomes available.
